The goalposts, they are a’changin’!

Politics No Comments

“The most important thing in this campaign is (insert constantly evolving most-important benchmark here)”.
- Best regards,
Hillary Rodham Clinton

How can anyone take Hillary seriously, when she keeps moving the goalposts when her numbers fall behind?

It’s the number of states won.
(You mean ….he’s won more states?)

No, no…I mean, it’s the overall popular vote!
(You mean ….we’re behind?)

Oh, well I simply meant that the most important thing is the number of pledged delegates we’ve won.  Yeah, that’s it!
(Wait a minute…you mean we’re behind?)

And don’t forget, I’m tough!  I landed on an airfield in Bosnia, surrounded by militant sniper fire…but I love people so much that I stood tall, let a little Bosnian girl give

me flowers, kiss me on the cheek and read me a poem.  And then I immediately took cover again - that little girl was more important than my safety!

I’m sorry, I mis-spoke (couldn’t hear the question with all the sniper fire around me!) …I meant that the most important thing is the 4 Democratic swing states.  Yeah,

that’s it!

We’re beating Obama by easy double digits in Pennsylvania.  (What?  My lead is down to 3 points with 2 weeks to go?)

I’m sorry, what I meant to say was that pledged delegates don’t truly exist.  They’re a misnomer.  Yeah, that’s it!  And what I meant to say is that the superdelegates

will see that I’m the strongest candidate for the highest office in the land.”

What’s that?  My chief strategist is playing both sides of the fence with Columbia and the trade deal?
That’s it!  Fire him!
(shhh…don’t tell anyone, but go ahead and hire him back…we’ll just give him a new title)

I’d also like for everyone to know that my experience makes me a better candidate - but only for the positive things that happened while I was married to the President.

The other stuff (Lewinsky, Flowers, Whitewater, impeachment, etc etc etc)…. well, I can’t take credit for that, only the good stuff!  Remember that now!

Okay, well..forget all that other stuff!  All we have to do is seat Michigan and Florida delegates and we’re right back in this thing.
(You mean Obama wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan?)  That’s okay…that’s how we roll in this campaign.  Get on board!

——————–

When is this madness going to end?  I swear, even if I was not an Obama supporter, Hillary would not get my vote, simply because of her constantly changing the

“rules” of a successful campaign.  Barack Obama is by no means perfect, and has his negatives as well …but at LEAST he will admit when he’s been beaten.  Ohio, Texas, Tennessee …all very gracious and glory given to Hillary Clinton.  Did she give him the same courtesy upon his victories?  Check the tape.  I think not.

Forget 4 more years of Bush …I’d rather have that than another 8 years of Billary.

Hillary shows humility

Politics 2 Comments

Admittedly, I never liked Hillary Clinton much - truth be told, I’ve never liked her at all….but tonight, she gained a lot of my respect after demonstrating true and honest humility at the end of the Texas Democratic debate. At one point, she turned to Senator Obama, and almost in a conciliatory (and bordering on concessionary) way, touched his arm and told the viewing public that she “was honored, truly honored to be sitting next to this man”.

I don’t think anyone (including the Clintons) realistically believe that Hillary has a chance of getting into the White House. Without coming right out and saying it, Hillary showed the most honest, sincere part of herself and gave the “Obama machine” the respect that it (and he) deserves.

Wauy to go, Hillary - by showing that you actually are human, you won this debate tonight!

Obama sweeps 10 straight primaries!

The momentum that has slowly built behind the Presidential campaign of Illinois Senator and Presidential hopeful Barack Obama is, in a word, stunning. He was the underdog for a good portion of the race to the Democratic nomination and in the last 30 days, has simply blown Hillary Clinton’s campaign “out of the way”, with win after win in key states that analysts and supporters alike had already “given” to Hillary. Then came Obama.

On the Republican side, pundits liken former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as an “irritant” to Arizona Senator John McCain, as McCain is certain (in most people’s eyes) to be the nominee …but lately it looks as if Senator Clinton has assumed the role of “irritant”. What used to be Clinton’s stronghold, women and those over the age of 50, are now becoming fodder for Obama’s “Change for America” motto.

The youth of America is turning out in numbers that have never, in the history of politics, been seen before.

African-Americans love him.

Latinos are learning that he’s got their best interest at heart.

White women respect him.

White men think he’s got what it takes.

And the numbers are proving it.

To Barack Obama, I say this: don’t give up for a moment! The Clinton machine can never be counted out until the final bell is rung, and the last vote counted. What you have done, Mr. Obama, is inspired a nation…rallied people to stand behind you. Many of those, including myself, who have always looked at politics as “someone else’s problem” because nothing ever changes.

With you, Mr. Obama, I believe in my future now. I believe in the future of my children.

And I will stand with you as we unite this country, as it was in the beginning.

John Houser Parker, pt I

The Legal Battles No Comments

John H. Parker was an experienced, trusted and respected Memphis attorney. He had been practicing law for 30 years, and was well-known. My father, back in 2000, some way/some how came to be referred to Parker as “the best”. That’s the only way my dad operated. Didn’t have to be expensive, didn’t have to be top-of-the-line …it just had to be the best of whatever he chose. I guess that was the fighter pilot in him.

Dad apparently liked what John Parker had to say. He believed him. That sounds odd to say, since my father wasn’t a very trusting person. I guess as a fighter pilot, you probably have to give trust only when earned. I’m honestly not sure what John said, but it must have made an impact on my dad…it must have.

John said he had all the right people in place to take care of Jim’s family. See, Dad realized, as so eloquently quoted by Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Generations, he realized “there are fewer days ahead than there are behind”, and wanted to make sure his family would be well taken care of…and John Parker was the answer.
